How a 3× World Champion built Australia’s flagship Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy and the family that keeps it thriving.

3× World Champion
SJJA Floreat is the Perth home of Sharp Jiu Jitsu Academy.
The story starts in 2016. Bruno Alves, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and multiple-time
World Champion, opened the first SJJA in Sydney with one goal: teach world-class Jiu-Jitsu
to as many people as possible. The academy grew into one of the largest and most
respected BJJ networks in Australia.
SJJA Floreat brings that system west. Same curriculum. Same standards. Same belt-by-belt
path that’s produced national champions and thousands of confident, capable students.
We’re more than a martial arts school—we’re a community. Kids, parents, beginners, and black belts train together, learning practical self-defence, improving fitness, and growing in a supportive environment.
Every class
Bruno Alves is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt 4th degree under Zé Radiola (ZR Team). He has won World, Pan American, South American and European titles at middleweight.
Every SJJA academy, including Floreat, teaches the methodology he built. That’s what makes the coaching consistent no matter which location you walk into.
Floreat sits in the heart of Perth’s western suburbs. We’re an easy drive from Wembley, City Beach, Jolimont, Wembley Downs, Mount Claremont and Subiaco, with parking close by.
